Process: Marathon Harness

Process: Marathon Harness

In 2023, I made a marathon harness to accompany a cart made by Lauren Byun. I originally shared process photos on my studio Facebook page; those photos along with the original commentary are shared here.

Tiny pattern pieces? Sandwich them in tape to give yourself a handle before you transfer the pattern to your leather.

Breast collar padding - not my favorite task so far, but a good distraction from the bridle.

It feels good to have something to put on the horse, even imperfectly adjusted.

Fortunately, every bit of this harness is adjustable at the moment. Yup, working tongue buckles left and right.

If you want to count the buckles yourself (because I've lost track by now!), you can do it in person at Breyerfest! This harness is a collaboration with Full Moon Tack - Art by Lauren Wood who is making a marathon cart to go with it!

Photos of the finished harness with horse and cart are courtesy of Lauren Byun. Click on the images to view them at full size. This set was sold in the Artisans Gallery via offers at Breyerfest 2023.
